The department indents to inculcate the necessary skills to cater the academic, Pharmaceutical and allied industries, research etc. The faculties of this department are well experienced, competent and qualified with very good flair in the subject.
The department conducts the research in the core area of phytochemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug discovery, molecular modelling, computer aided drug designing, method development etc. The department also provides consultancy services in area of spectral data analysis, organic synthesis and Phytochemical analysis.
The department features UV-Vis Spectrometer utilisation facilities. UV-Vis Spectrometry is a quantitative technique used to measure how much a chemical substance absorbs light. This is done by measuring the intensity of light that passes through a sample with respect to the intensity of light through a reference sample or blank.
UV-Vis spectroscopy is used in analytical chemistry for the quantitative determination of different analytes, such as transition metal ions, highly conjugated organic compounds, and biological macromolecules.
HPLC
Our research facility relies heavily on the High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) as an analytical tool. HPLC is an analytical technique used to identify the components in a mixture and separate mixtures of very similar compounds. HPLC is considered a crucial tool in a variety of research applications, including evaluating formulations, checking purity etc.
FTIR
A crucial instrument for analytical purposes in our research lab is the Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy, which is also known as FTIR Analysis or FTIR Spectroscopy, which is used to identify organic, polymeric, and, in some cases, inorganic materials. The FTIR analysis method uses infrared light to scan test samples and observe chemical properties.
Electronic Balance:
Electronic balance is a piece of lab equipment that is used to precisely measure the weight of materials. The use of electronic balance includes scientific and pharmaceutical research, bakeries, and chemical laboratories. Simply put, it is a kind of measuring scale that is employed to precisely determine an object's mass.
Flame photometer:
The flame photometer is a key instrument for the analytical requirements of our research lab. It is an instrument used in inorganic chemical analysis to determine the concentration of certain metal ions, among them sodium, potassium, lithium, and calcium. Group 1 and Group 2 metals are quite sensitive to Flame Photometry due to their low excitation energies.
Digital Ultrasonic Cleaner
Ultrasonic cleaners are suitable for cleaning a wide variety of materials, including metals, glass, rubber, ceramics and some hard plastics. An ultrasonic parts cleaner is especially useful for removing tightly-adhered contaminants from intricate items with blind holes, cracks and recesses.
PH Meter:
pH meter is an instrument used to measure hydrogen ion activity in solutions - in other words, this instrument measures acidity/alkalinity of a solution. The degree of hydrogen ion activity is ultimately expressed as pH level, which generally ranges from 1 to 14.
Conductivity Meter
The conductivity metre is an equipment in our lab that enables us to gauge the conductivity of solutions. Conductivity is an ability of materials (solutions, metals or gases) to pass an electric current. While all materials possess the ability to pass electric currents, the degree of such ability can vary.
Fluorimeter
The flourimeter is an indispensable equipment of our lab that enables us to quantify biological analytes based on fluorescence. Fluorometers are used for precise quantitation of various biological molecules, such as nucleic acids and proteins, in microliter (μL) samples.
Digital Nepheloturbidity Meter
Digital Nephelo/Turbidity Meter 132 in our lab, is used to measure the haziness or cloudiness in a liquid medium such as water, solutions, beverages like wine, beer, and soft drinks, and solid medium like window glass or translucent glass.
Colorimeter
In our lab, the colorimeter is used for a wide range of chemical and biological applications including the analysis of blood, water, soil nutrients food products and the determination of solution concentration, reaction levels and the measurement of bacterial crop growth.
Magnetic Stirrer
A magnetic stirrer consists of a rotating magnet or a stationary electromagnet that creates a rotating magnetic field. It is used to make a stir bar, immerse in a liquid, quickly spin, or stirring or mixing a solution for synthesise of compounds etc.
Hydraulic press
Hydraulic press is commonly used to test the strength and durability of materials, investigate the effects of high pressure on different substances and create pellets for sample analysis for FTIR spectroscopy.
Melting point Apparatus
The melting point device is an essential piece of equipment for determining sample melt and is used for applications including quality control, chemistry and industrial labs, particularly for the purity checking of raw materials received and synthesised compounds.
Polarimeter
Polarimeter is an essential equipment in our chemistry lab for estimatingthe angle of rotation. It is one of the most important quality control methods used in the pharmaceutical, chemical, cosmetics, food and beverage industry – optically active substances are analysed by determining their angle of rotation.
Vacuum Pump
The vacuum pump in our lab is used to lower a system's internal pressure, which lowers a solvent's boiling point. The solvent evaporates at a much lower temperature when the boiling point is lowered, which reduces sample deterioration. The apparatus is used for wide range of pharmaceutical experiments.
Deionizer
Deionizing removes ions and other unwanted particles, which reduces chemical reactions between dissolved solids. Deionizer in our lab helps eliminate impurities coming from the tap or bottled waters in the laboratories for chemical reactions in lab experiments.
Potentiometer
Potentiometer is an apparatus that is used in analytical chemistry, usually to find the concentration of a solute in solution. In this technique, the potential between two electrodes is measured using a high-impedance voltmeter.
Centrifuge
A centrifuge is a system that separates the component parts of a liquid or fluid (and even gases) using centrifugal force. It is used in the lab for different research experiments.
Refractometer
Refractometers are commonly used to estimate the refractive index of liquid samples and test fluid concentrations like blood protein content, amount of sugar, and salinity. The Abbe refractometer is a measurement device that can measure the refractive index.
